Concrete Literary Magazine accepts submissions from Emerson College students, including poetry and prose (fiction, non-fiction, screenplays, and anything else you deem “prose"). Our submission period opens on September 1 and will close at 11:59 P.M. on January 31, 2027.
The theme of our 2026-2027 print issue is ‘Limerence,’ the blissful, typically involuntary state of being madly in love or intensely infatuated when reciprocation of the feeling is uncertain or unknown. Writers may interpret the theme as closely or loosely as they wish, but as a starting point we invite you to think about the pulsing heartbeat of obsession when desires go unmet, and the tides of insatiable infatuation. Think of the thirst of desire and the lengths you’d go to drink. Consider the flowers peeking out between slabs of concrete on the sidewalk, which bloom not because of but despite where they’re planted.
‘Limerence’ is the teetering edge of falling into someone or something else, and risking the loss of yourself for love.
Submissions do not strictly need to relate to the theme in order to be considered.
*Please include a cover letter with your submission that contains your name, Emerson ID, email address, year and major, and the title and genre of the work submitted. Please do not include your name or any other identifying information within the document you are submitting. Each piece should be submitted as a separate document and a separate submission. After receiving notification of our publication decision regarding your submission to one category, you are welcome to submit separately to the other category.
Poetry: Submit up to 5 poems per reading period, with a maximum of 5 pages of poetry per poem.
Prose: Submit up to 3 separate pieces of prose per reading period, each between 1,000 and 6,000 words.
Note: Concrete considers submissions from both undergraduate and graduate students of Emerson College.
