Concrete accepts unsolicited submissions from Emerson College undergraduates, including fiction, non-fiction, screenplays, and anything else you deem “prose," as well as poetry.

Our theme this year is "Alibi." Writers can interpret the theme any way they wish, but for a jumping-off point, we're thinking we are thinking about mischief, mystery, crime, surveillance, and punishment: Where were you? What have you done? What do our surroundings and actions mean to our character?

Alibi (n.) - A concrete reason or verifiable evidence of a person's absence from the crime scene.

Our submission period lasts from October 1, 2025 to January 31, 2026 at 11:59 PM.

Submit up to 5 poems per reading period, with a maximum of 5 pages of poetry per poem.

Submit up to 3 separate pieces of prose per reading period, each between 1,000 and 6,000 words.

Each piece should be submitted as a separate document and a separate submission.

Note: Concrete considers submissions from both undergraduate and graduate students of Emerson College.

Note: Submissions need not relate to our theme of "Alibi" to be considered.

*Please include a cover letter with your submission that contains your name, Emerson ID, email address, year and major, and the title and genre of the work submitted. However, please do not include your name or any other identifying information within the document you are submitting. After receiving notification of our publication decision regarding your submission to one category, you are welcome to submit separately to the other category.
